New Partnership for Research, Human Rights, and Inclusion: TIES and ACLRC Sign Memorandum of Understanding

CALGARY — The TIES Centre for Immigrant Research (TCIR) and the Alberta Civil Liberties Research Centre (ACLRC) have officially entered into a new strategic partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to advance research, education, and public awareness on issues affecting immigrants, refugees, and marginalized communities across Alberta.

Signed on October 8, 2026, the agreement brings together two prominent Calgary-based organizations with complementary expertise. TCIR contributes deep specialization in immigrant settlement and integration experiences, while ACLRC provides extensive knowledge in civil liberties, human rights, and public legal education.

Key areas of collaboration under the MOU include:

Joint Research: Partnering on studies focused on immigrant and refugee rights, access to justice, structural barriers, equity, and human rights in diverse communities.

Knowledge Sharing: Disseminating research insights through joint publications, events, webinars, and educational workshops.

Ecosystem Connection: Amplifying shared initiatives and connecting key stakeholders across Calgary and Alberta’s research and community networks.

The agreement was formally signed by Kreisha Hilario, Senior Manager at TCIR, and Cam Stewart, Executive Director at ACLRC, on behalf of their respective organizations. The ceremony and strategic direction of the agreement were organized through the efforts of Flora Stevenson and Hamed Kazemzadeh.

This partnership marks an important step toward addressing systemic inequities and fostering more inclusive communities across Alberta and Canada.
